Platinum applied over silver solves its main drawback. Pure 925 silver darkens on contact with air and sweat, leaving a grey film that needs regular cleaning. Platinum plating acts as a barrier and slows this down considerably.
What the plating does in practice
The jewellery keeps looking the way it did on day one for longer, and needs cleaning less often. The colour is whiter and cooler than pure silver, closer to platinum or white gold. Platinum is also low-reactive, so it triggers skin reactions less often.
