A choker differs from an ordinary necklace in one respect: it sits on the neck itself rather than on the chest. That is why it draws the line of the neck and reads stronger, even when the piece itself is fine.

Length matters more here than usual

The standard is 35 to 40 cm. Measure your neck with a tape and add 2 to 3 cm so the choker does not press. Styles with an extender give you margin, so if you are buying without trying it on, choose one of those.

Types

  • chain chokers, from fine to more defined links
  • pearl chokers with 0.6 cm pearls
  • pendant chokers: heart, clover, stone
  • beaded styles with small elements in a steady rhythm

What to wear it with

Best with the neck exposed: a boat neck, straps, a shirt with the collar open. Under a polo neck a choker disappears. For layering, take it as the shortest piece and make the rest 5 cm longer.
