Size
Measure your finger in the evening, since hands are smaller in the morning. For a wide band take half a size up compared with a thin one, because a wide band sits tighter. When you are between two numbers, choose the larger. If you would rather not risk it, look for an adjustable model.
Material
Gold and platinum plating are surface layers, so with daily wear they rub away over time, especially underneath the shank where it meets the neighbouring finger. Solid 585 gold does not have this problem. The point matters most with rings, because they take more abuse than any other piece.
